Joseph Carleone, Ph.D.
Dr. Carleone has served as Chairman of the Avid Bioservices Board since November of 2017.
He was President, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of American Pacific Corporation
(Nasdaq: AFPC), a leading custom manufacturer of active pharmaceutical ingredients and
registered intermediates for the pharmaceutical industry. These products include compounds
used for anti-viral applications, including HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis C and the drug Tamiflu. In
addition, products are made for use in the treatment of cancer and central nervous systems
disorders. He led the sale of this publicly traded corporation to H.I.G. Capital where he remained
CEO until the sale of the business to SK Holdings in 2018. Dr. Carleone also serves on the Board
of Sensient Technologies (NYSE: SXT) where he currently serves as Lead Director. Recently,
Dr. Carleone also founded Carleone Partners, an advisory firm to the Pharmaceutical, Chemical
and Aerospace industries with a focus on Growth Strategy and M&A. He currently serves as the
Managing Director. Dr. Carleone also currently serves on the Advisory Board to the Dean of
Engineering at Drexel University.
Dr. Carleone holds a doctorate and a master’s degree in Applied Mechanics and a bachelor’s
degree in Mechanical Engineering from Drexel University. He has continued his education at the
California Institute of Technology and UCLA Anderson School of Business in the areas of
business and management.
